Monthly returns, as the funds reported them

Every quarterly N-PORT filing carries the fund's own monthly total returns for the three months it covers. Read across the whole archive that is a continuous monthly series for 1,067 funds, up to 84 months each, back to 2019-07. These are not our calculation and not a vendor's: they are the numbers the fund filed. Every figure on this site that involves a return can now be traced to a filing rather than to a price feed.

Measured 2026-09-23. Per fund: /data/returns-filed/TICKER.json — the monthly series, and for each month the filing period and SEC receipt date it came from.

How this is read from a filing

  • Which figure. Item B.5 of Form N-PORT: monthly total return, net of expenses, for each of the three months in the reporting period. Total return, so distributions are in it — a price chart will not match exactly, and should not.
  • Which share class. A filing reports every class of the series; the ETF is one of them. The class is taken from the SEC's own ticker table, by identifier. A ticker not in that table is left out rather than reported from a class that might be the wrong one.
  • Which month. The three figures are the three months ending on the report date, oldest first. A build that would place a month after the filing's own period date is rejected.
  • Checked twice. Each series is compared with a monthly series computed separately from prices. 548 funds agree within a point and a half; the 15 that do not are listed below, their series still published, their summary figures withheld — we cannot tell from the filings alone which reading is wrong.

Compounded from the twelve most recent monthly figures each fund filed. Different funds' newest filings end in different months, so these are not returns over the same window; each row carries its own.

Where our two readings disagree

15

For these funds the filed monthly figures and the price-derived series differ by more than distributions can explain. One of the two is wrong and the filings do not say which, so no compounded figure is published for them; the monthly series is still in the data file, marked. If you can show which reading is right, say so and it will be corrected in place.

What this can and cannot tell you

  • A fund's series starts when it began filing N-PORT, not when it launched. The longest here is 84 months.
  • Returns are net of the fund's expenses and include distributions; they are not what a particular holder earned, which depends on when they bought and what they paid in tax.
  • Past returns say nothing about future ones. This site publishes them because they are in the filings, not as a basis for choosing a fund.
  • Machine-readable: /data/returns-filed/TICKER.json per fund, summary for all funds.
